Since Dad moved in with us in September 2013, he has been biting at the bit to get some form of transportation. He had previously been kicking around the idea of a motorcycle or a fancy scooter, but we talked him out of that slaphappy notion. He is 90, for heaven's sake! But people will quite often peg him to be as young as 89. Dad chalks up his school boy, good looks to his unwavering commitment of one-arm push ups and a steady diet of rock climbing.
After much discussion, and some mild Irish temper, we finally convinced Dad that a mobility scooter was almost the exact same thing as a Harley. He made it abundantly clear that his new machine would have to have as much low-end torque and horsepower that money could buy. In his own words "I want a ride that rumbles - not begs for mercy". After that, we didn't bother checking out Craigs or Kijiji, cause I doubted we would have much luck finding Dad's baby there.
Anywho, as luck would have it, we found the perfect scooter that looked more like a motorcycle than a scooter and which we thought would be ideal for Dad. I think the name says it all "COBRAn GT4".
Dad, finally got bitchin' wheels, and is happy as a young boy with a sock monkey. We have all taken it for a spin and layed some rubber just for the heck of it. It's still up in the air, whether we get air bags installed or a crash helmet. Well Father's day is just around the corner; decisions, decisions.
I was so surprised to hear that one of my pieces of art was selected to appear in the "the big art book". It was a painting of an elderly woman who is bending over planting seeds. The piece was called "circle of life". SO EXCITING!
Our Father, Thomas Fitzpatrick, reached his 90th birthday on Sept 14, 2013. Can you imagine?? We all celebrated this milestone the next day at his home in Pickering. Along with the family, a few friends, and neighbours we did our best to pay tribute to this most incredible man. Sadly, our dear mother, who we lost on Dec 19, 2012, could not be there. But I am sure, she was there in spirit and celebrating this wonderul day, with the ourest of us. Dad will be moving in with me this week, where Harry, and I and the two dogs will take care of him. I look forward to spoiling him and loving him as he so much deserves.
My sister "AnnMarie" wrote this most beautiful tribute to Dad which appeared in the Toronto Star on Sept 14th. Dad couldn't have been prouder and more appreciative than when he read this!
I was invited to attend an art exhibit where I was joined by two other artist. While the attendance was not as successful as I'd have like, I did sell three of my paintings. Here are the three I sold.
